APACS Tantrum 200

Racket: Apacs Tantrum 200

Specs : 3UG2

Flex: Stiff-

Balance: 285+/-5 mm
Strings(I used) : Ashaway Zymax 65 Tension: 27lbs
Grip: original grip + wilson one(provided free with racket, don’t know which one is it)
Technology : Isometric head, Super P-F frame, Hi-modulus graphite(Toray M30 and M40 grade graphite)

First Impression: Initially , I believed, this color looks a bit cool and peaceful, with light green as the main color with delicate colors of gray, silver and black. The racket looks enjoyable and is 'well-built'. For the first time I handle it, the racket feels even balance, solid and somewhat stiff. Frame shape is rather standard isometric. The 'T-joint' and shaft is rather thick.

Warm Ups: The racket indeed feels really solid. But as normal, I start off with baseline to baseline shots. Clears are decent, feels like mid flex in terms of stiffness when I attempted overhead shots. Racket head is stable and well balanced. Reaction time is above average and the driving or flat play is good. The racket is stable in cutting thru the air and feels easy to switch shots.

Game Time: Serving low works like a charm with this racket, very accurate to hit. Flick serve is excellent as well. Net play is great and control is very good as the 'feeling' is there. Sliced and reversed sliced shots are excellent as one can 'feel' the shots coming off the string bed, not to mention I am rather bad at playing those shots. When it comes to time reaction, I would say that this racket is great. Smashes are solid with this racket and easy to generate power. Control is well above average. Defense is near to excellent but not as maneuverable/aerodynamic as the best headlight racket due to the thick T-joint/thick shaft. Driving is really good with this racket.

Conclusion: What can you criticize when you can have solid sensation, power and control? Probably the racket is not that aerodynamic. I’m pleased with it and how it is made. This racket is excellent for control at the net, clears to the corners, smashes and general all round play. Probably, not the best defensive racket, but the control and power makes up for it. It is an all-rounder racket that would suit most players.

I would also like to mention that first 2-3 times, when I played I got feeling that racket is not up to its mark but after that, when I got acquainted with the racket, it worked like a charm… real cheap racket and you get a high quality performance… Recommended for all

Feel: 9/10
Control: 9.5/10
Power: 9/10
Defense: 8.5/10
Maneuverability: 8.5/10

Positive Points : Excellent control, power and an all-rounder racket

Negative Points: slightly less aerodynamic than the modern slim racket hence slightly lower defense and maneuverability

Suitable player levels: Advance/Intermediate/high beginner all-around player

Comments

  1. So if I were to upgrade from the Tantrum 200, which racket should I upgrade to?

More aerodynamics in the racket is good.
